CPC Certification
All drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to drive a lorry, bus or coach.
This course counts as 7 hours towards that 35 hours of training. Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. This means that you can requalify within the same 5 year period with the training hours counting separately, equating to 14 hours towards your total 35.
This Driver CPC- Emergency First Aid at Work (+F) qualification is DVSA approved and meets the CPC requirements for LGV and PCV drivers. The qualification is delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.
Forestry First Aid (+F) Certification
The (+F) qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).
FAA are an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation. The qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF)). The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.
CPC Entry Requirements
The Driver CPC- Emergency First Aid at Work (+F) qualification is suitable for learners aged 21+ and it is recommended that learners hold a minimum of level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake the course. All learners must prove their identity with photo ID and show they have the right entitlement on their driving licence before starting the course.
Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation. For example, a learner will need to get to the floor unassisted and demonstrate effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin at floor level. If a learner has any concerns they should contact us before attending the course.
Qualification Assessment
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and a written exam. There is no grading of the assessment, learners pass or are referred.
Practical assessment
Scenarios are set recreating a real-life situation as far as possible to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment the learner will be asked set related oral questions by the trainer/assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course with the trainer/assessor making learners aware of when they are being assessed and what they are required to demonstrate. A learner must satisfactorily complete each scenario to pass the practical assessment.
Driver Initial Qualification Information
Drivers who gained their vocational licence after 9th September 2008 for PCV licences or 9th September 2009 for LGV licences may have had to pass the Driver CPC Initial Qualification in order to obtain their Drivers Qualification Card (DQC)*. If you have not gained the Initial Qualification, where required and do not have a valid DQC you cannot have any Driver CPC training hours uploaded to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) driver database as part of the 35 hours of periodic training. Further information regarding this can be found here: www.gov.uk/become-lorry-bus-driver
SLP First Aid cannot accept responsibility if you attend any Driver CPC training course and it is subsequently discovered that the training hours cannot be uploaded due to the lack of attaining the Initial Qualification. We kindly request that drivers bring their DQC (together with their Driving licence) with them when attending any Driver CPC training course.
*Please note: drivers who gained their car licence before 1st Jan 1997 typically will have acquired rights for C1 and D1 licences and therefore do not have to gain the Initial Qualification.
